Your Data Stays on Your Device
FamilyVault is built local-first: your documents, family members, vehicles, and products are stored entirely on your device. We don't require an account, we don't have servers that store your documents, and we can't see your data.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything is stored on your device. You can add an optional PIN or Face ID/Fingerprint lock so only you can open the app.
Can you access my documents?
No. We have no servers that store your document images or family data. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly create and share a backup file yourself.

Do I need to create an account?
No. FamilyVault works fully offline with no account or sign-up required for its core features — scanning documents, tracking warranties, and managing your family.
How do I set up App Lock?
Go to Settings and enable App Lock. You'll set a PIN, and can optionally turn on Face ID (iOS) or Fingerprint (Android) unlock as well.
How does document scanning work?
Tap "Scan Document," choose a document type, take or select a photo, and confirm the details. The image is saved securely on your device and organized into folders you create.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. From Settings, create an encrypted backup of all your data. You choose where to save it (Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, etc.) — we never see or receive your backup.
What happens if I uninstall the app?
Your local data is removed when you uninstall, unless you created a backup beforehand. Always create a backup before uninstalling if you want to keep your data.
Does it work offline?
Yes, completely. FamilyVault is designed to work entirely without an internet connection.
Is there a web version?
No. FamilyVault is a mobile app for Android and iOS. Keeping it app-only, local-first means there's no cloud server holding your family's documents.
🔧 Troubleshooting
I forgot my PIN
There is no PIN recovery for privacy reasons. Use "Forgot PIN" on the lock screen, which will erase local app data so you can set a new PIN. If you have a backup, restore it afterward to get your documents back.
Face ID / Fingerprint not working
Make sure biometric unlock is enabled on your device (Settings → Face ID & Passcode, or → Fingerprint), then toggle it off/on in FamilyVault's Settings.
App crashes when I open it
Try: 1) Force-quit and reopen, 2) Restart your device, 3) Update to the latest version from the app store, 4) If it still crashes, restore from a backup after reinstalling.
Camera permission issues
Document scanning requires camera access. Check Settings → FamilyVault → Camera is enabled on your device.
